I have had about 30 responces. They have been overwhelming requesting doing
the 40 K instead of the shortening to 20 K.

Even though I'm only 56 I think the longer distances (40K+) are less stressful then the shorter 10mile/20K TTs.

Oh, please. I was hoping to start a movement to get the 65-69 group changed
to 40K. Not that I've experienced what it's like to be that age yet, but
I'm 62, and hoping to have the challenge available when I get to 65. I
certainly don't want 60-64 changed to 20K. I'm still getting faster, and
hoping this year to beat my PR set in 1981 at age 36.

I have had a call asking that the older masters not do 40K at the TT
champs. Can we get a concensus?
40 K for 59 and under for men
20 K for 60 and over for men
40 K for 49 and under for women
20 K for 50 and over for women?
Need to hear from you.

I'm for treating the men's older age groups and the women's older age
groups the same in this case, whatever distance (s) that amounts to.

Harumph!! I would feel insulted if I was expected to ride only 20K. George is right - we should be in pretty good shape by this time - let her roll!

If we only did 20 K I'd be nearly warmed up. When one reaches my advanced age warm up takes a looong time.

Train more.

or

Do not do the complete distance. We will not force you to finish, just DQ you.

Actually, we made it longer, because a number of those over 60 who do tend to train for bike racing, did not like the fact that the distance was shorter , thus negating the benefits of much of their training. On that basis, we assumed most bike racers could ride for 25 miles on a flat course. The sixty plus masters men just raced a 37 mile road race that was reasonably hilly, so it did not seem to be much of a stretch to do a 25 mile distance on a flat course.
