Prize list vs Attendance - Mary's Peak HC

Mike Murray's point about prize list not relating well to attendance is
something I noticed over the years, too.

Heather and I are putting it to the test this year at Mary's Peak, Aug
18th.

We are donating all proceeds to Ryan McKnab's recovery. If you would
like to race the event, there is a spot both online and on the entry
form for folks to donate.

If you choose not to race, but wish to donate some $ to help Ryan's
family, that's great, too. Several folks have already offered up their
entry as a donation as they could not make it this year, but wanted to
show their support.

We broke even last year with 65 racers showing up and giving out a 30%
purse to the fastest men and women...not much of a haul for folks like
Alex Newport-Berra or Doug O....and yet they still came and raced. It
ended up being about $290 split over 8 racers with 1st (men and women)
getting $50 and last getting their entry fee back. This $290 will go to
Ryan this year. Full Cycles will be donating gift certificates to our
faster competitors, but it won't be enough to pick up that new P3 you've
been wanting.

If you'd like to help out the event, and even provide extra support for
Ryan, we'll track it and let everyone know how we did.

My guess is that we'll have a similar if not better turnout even if
we're not giving away cash this year, primarily due to the fact that
OBRA racers care about each other. We value well-run, challenging
events over prize lists.

We'll see if I'm right.

Stay tuned.
