Compact shifting

Shimano makes a compact crank and should have available soon the Ultegra SL compact. I have an Ultegra front derailleur and switched from a standard Race Face crank to a Shimano Compact Crank and my shifting actually improved with less delay than the Race Face. Shimano just shifts that much better.

Shimano literature states that their compact cranks work with the standard Derailleur and I have to say it is true.

I have a Shimano Ultegra front derailleur with FSA cranks and have not had problems shifting between a 34 and 50 chainring. I was also concerned initially. Be aware though that the changing up is a bit slower - I find myself pushing and holding the lever for a bit to make sure the chain is on the big ring.

How does the standard Shimano front derailleur shift on compact cranks? I am guessing just fine. Some companies (Campy, FSA) make a compact specific f. der. and Shimano doesn't...
any experiences, good, bad, or otherwise?
