What's up with Craig's list bikes ? I was in a bike shop recently and a guy came in with a Santa Cruz Blur that looked to be in pretty good condition, it needed a minor tune-up. After talking with him for a bit I found out he just bought it off Craig's List for $300 !!!! This bike Retails for $1600 to $2500 and sells used for $1,000 to $2,000 (depending on the condition). Although there are many legitimate people selling their bikes on Craig's List , just be wary of those "super deals" if it's really too good to be true, it probably is and the bike could possibly be stolen. If you want to see if a bike you're considering is stolen, check out the listings at http://bikeportland.org/ (see the Bike Theft Info area), also some bike shops keep listings of stolen bikes (only if they are reported), (and the portland police dept may have listings as well), so check around a bit before buying that awesome bike for peanuts.
Cheers
