"We came, we saw, we rode" the Sunset Criterium course.
I have a rough sketch from a google-earth image outlining the course; let me know if you would like to see it.
Or, Sunset Cycles in Bethany Village has course maps.
From the start, there is a 3-block section down to the 180 degree turn at the bottom of the downhill. This turn is slightly wider than the 180 degree turn at the CMG Hillsboro Criterium. Turning uphill at tat point, the course takes the riders back the same 3-blocks (slightly less than 3-blocks, since the course exits the road near the start/finish), turning right into a parking lot (while still climbing). Then, there is a left turn over a moderately flat section of one block, with a left turn downhill. 50 meters descending is followed with a right turn onto another flat section for a very short distance. The course then dives down left into a parking lot with a left-turn/left-turn sequence across a flat to slight climbing section. This then takes the cyclists back onto the street, with about 150 meters from there to the start/finish. The course has similar features in comparison to other criteriums: the community college criterium in Eugene several years ago, the uphill climbing similar to Crawfish, the 180 degree turn similar to CMG/Hillsboro and the criterium course on the campus in Corvallis several years ago.
There are 6 transitions (curb-cuts), of which only three may be a concern. The out and back section, although devoid of traffic, will be a challenge. However, there are solutions being implemented. See below:
According to the race promoter (Michael Manning), the following details about the course were noted:
the course has been reviewed and approved by OBRA (Sal has ridden the course himself).
the significant curb-cuts (entering/exiting or transitioning between roads) will be leveled-out with asphalt
the out-n-back section will be divided by traffic-fencing/barrier
