What Ever Happened to Jacob Hacker?

I also ran into Jake when I was listening to downloaded medical podcasts
while riding my bike and suddenly Jake was talking in my ear. Just like back
in the old days. Here is the link:

Subject: [OBRA Chat] What Ever Happened to Jacob Hacker?

Back in the mid 1980s when I started racing, there was a young bike racer
named Jacob Hacker. When he was 15 years old, he and I regularly battled it
out in the Cat 4s (with Jake usually coming out on top). He was part of the
original Nike Team Oregon that supported a group of young superstars (Chris
Hamilton is the only one still racing, as far as I know). Jake quickly
became a strong Cat 2, and raced locally until he went off to college and
quit racing. A few years later, he started racing again, won the collegiate
national championships, then disappeared from bike racing again. I have not
heard anything about him since then. This week, I came across his name while
doing some research at work, and wondered if it was the same guy. Sure
enough, it was him. Jake has gone on to become a well known professor of
political science at Yale University and an accomplished and respected
author. (I on the other hand have gone on to win many important races,
including one night at the Eugene Tuesday night Criterium series). If you
are interested, you can read up on Jake?s post bike racing accomplishments
here.
