Happy story on a sad day

Friends,
another cyclist was killed today while riding, name still not released.

That said, he's a happier story.

Today I got to work and rode around the back of our building to go in the back door.
I moved back to my old law firm to be a partner.
When I last worked there, there was a problem with homeless folks sleeping behind the building.
So today as I come around back, there is noone there, but a mountain bike is sitting there, and it sort of has that "been stolen and abused" look to it.

I take it into the building to keep it safe, and to try and find the owner.

It has a sticker from a shop (not a Portland shop).
I look the bike up on finetoothcog.com, a search engine of stolen bikes, and find it, I email the person who posted it there. I call the shop, the shop says they didn't keep a record of the owner.
owner emails me, I ask a few questions, he knows the bike, knows things about it only the owner would.
it's his older bike, but he is a newer biker commuter.

He ever said, "let me make sure it's my bike", and went on to describe a lot more detail, so I was sure it was his bike.

He came to my office and picked it up, and was very very happy.

so,
1. Don't use a cable lock
2. before your bike gets stolen, write the serial # down somewhere, maybe even take a picture of it too.
3. if a bike gets stolen, use finetoothcog.com

and they lived happily ever after.
Safe riding to all, and to all a good night
