Kris Schamp
All,
First, on behalf of my colleagues at the Bike Gallery, my Bike Gallery team mates and all of Brett's close friends, I like to thank all of you in the OBRA community for the outpouring of sympathy, following the tragic loss of our friend, co-worker, team mate, and fellow racer Brett Jarolimek.
As might already have been reported previously, this Sunday at the Halloween cross race in Astoria, a silent, neutral lap will be staged prior to the singlespeed race, led by his close friends and Bike Gallery teammates.
On Monday, Portland Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is planning a memorial service at the school, which Brett graduated from in 2003. The school is located in the Pearl district at 1241 NW Johnson. The event is open to the public and will be held at 6:30 pm.
Prior to the memorial service on Monday, Bike Gallery co-workers and friends of Brett will lead a memorial ride in Forest Park, open to all riders who want to celebrate Brett's life in a fashion that seems befitting for someone who loved to ride his bike, be it at races or on leisure rides on the trails.
We will meet at the Thurman Street park entrance between 4:30pm and 5pm and ride out and back along Leif Erikson at a leisure pace. This is a fire access road and is not fully paved. Slick, narrow road bike tires are not recommended for this ride. Car parking at the park entrance is limited, so it might be smart to bike out there or park your car further down in the NW district and ride up to the entrance.
Thanks again for all your support.
~Kris
