Hello fellow cyclists,
I came across this interesting article from a British website. I realize the U.K. is different, but it sounds like they have few things already figured out. Perhaps we should look to them for a better model. Note that the "primary position" is the center of the lane, two abreast is allowed, and sidewalk cycling is unlawful.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] PDOT explains their bike safety philosophies, plans
Hi OBRA,I usually wouldn't forward an article from my site that's about bike infrastructure. But, given the circumstances surrounding the loss of a fellow racer, and the intense scrutiny that event put on bike safety in our city, I think the OBRA community should be as educated and involved as possible in this issue. On that note, I present to you a guest article by PDOT's bike coordinator, Roger Geller. In the article (link below) he explains how they arrived at their plans to redesign 14 dangerous intersections. He also explains why PDOT is against the "California-style" bike lane law that has been proposed by the Portland Police Bureau as a way to elimate "right hook" crashes. Here's the link - http://tinyurl.com/233v6sMr. Geller is watching the article for comments and he will be responding personally to questions and feedback. I think it'd be great to hear from OBRA members.See you at the race this Sunday.
