I need your help to identify a rider/commuter that damaged my car tonight
around 5:40pm.
I was on 4th just past Morrison with my right hand turn signal on to change
lanes, the person in the car next to me let me over. After I had merged,
the rider in question felt it necessary to yell an *expletive* and hit my
rear passenger door with either his fist or lock, enough to leave a nice big
dent in the door. I DID NOT SEE YOU! When you ride with NO LIGHTS and ALL
BLACK CLOTHING and on the white dashed road lines at night, NO ONE WILL SEE
YOU.
I have been out participating in the cycling community more since I moved
back to Portland from Eugene and feel as if after this incident that it
really hasn't hit some of the people out there what we can and should not do
to get our message out. I commute on a daily basis, but needed to drive
today because of a court date with my boss out of town. I am one of you who
is fighting for our right to the road, but this is no way to act. Maybe you
didn't see my cycling bumper stickers, maybe you don't care. I do care that
you disobey the law, fail to be properly lighted, and then feel the need to
damage my car in the process. Wear some more visible clothing, put a cheap
LED light on the front and rear of your bike, and ride in the lane with
traffic. How easy can it be?
I do not feel as if I am at fault for this. Maybe some of you will think
differently, so go ahead and blast me. I do not want to get in a huge
debate, just wondering if anyone might know this rider.
What this person looks like from what I could see in the 8 to 10 seconds I
saw him and the gentleman on the sidewalk could see:
Male
All Black Clothing, maybe dark brown knickers
Cycling Cap (black with a green stripe maybe) = NO HELMET
Black Messenger bag with green or blue big stripe down the middle
Riding a fixed gear with one wheel that has either a white, gold, yellow,
bright silver, etc rim. (something bright enough to reflect its color in the
dark of night with little to no light)
I would like to locate this person and discuss his actions. If you know who
he is, can you please help me out.
