Thanks for the response Randy. You are right IMBA has been working on this issue, as well as many others. The OMBA did a lot on this with IMBA input and many people around the state. Check out, http://www.ormba.net/, for what they were able to get done.

People need to act, do their research and they also need to work together. I wonder if Peter or Skip have talked to IMBA or OMBA? or even PUMP about their concerns, maybe they have and if so that is great. If they haven't they should, there has been a lot of work done and it would be a benefit for them not to have to do it again.

Hi All

I really am not trying top be negative, but this is not a new issue by a long shot. People need to realize that while hikers and horses are welcome, but mt bikes are no different then 4X4, motorcycles and quads in the Wilderness. I personally think that if mt bikes had been around when the Wilderness Act was written we wouldn't be in the this boat, but we are.

There is a really easy fix to this. Change the word "mechanized" to "motorized", but the politically will in not there.

IMBA and other groups and people have been working very hard for years on this issue.
I am frankly surprised it took Petr this long to act.

The ONRC stated under 50 miles of trails would be taken away, but in the end it is hundreds of miles of trails.
The ONRC would like to create other Wilderness area's around Oregon that will take away thousands of miles of access from mt bikers.

As to why Colorado, WV....it is because either there are major trail networks in danger in their area of being closed or the local IMBA groups have worked with local political leaders and forest service to create new trail projects. IMBA has sent out many releases about this Mt Hood wilderness project.

I'm a member of IMBA but I rarely see anything IMBA does in Oregon...I
usually see stuff for Colorado, Washington DC, and most recently I read
something about West Virginia.

Hi All
I really do not mean to sound rude but...
This is called the Mt Hood Wilderness Act and it is not new news, it
has
been going on for years! There have been lots of meetings and open
houses.
This is why people should join groups like IMBA!
This is also a clear case of watch whom you work with...the mt bike
community trusted certain eco groups and in the end got screwed!
I hope you will sign the petition and I hope it is not too late.

Hey Folks,

FYI: Many of the trails in the Mt Hood national forest are being
closed or may be closed for cycling. It appears that much of this is
being
done with little or no community involvement. Petr Kakes from SkiBowl
put us in contact with a gentlemen from Portland named Skip Sponsel.
He
has been lobbying for trail access in the area as well as new trail
project approval at Mt Hood SkiBowl ski resort.

Skip has agreed to come to USGP on Saturday to collect signatures.
(There will also be volunteers on hand with sheets)
Please take time out and sign the petition to keep trails open to
cycling!

Thanks!
