Hey, I finally found a pair of craft rainpants that had gotten lost in our last move. I've had for 2 years, but only worn about 8x. They're a size large, and ,well, no longer fit me.
If anyone wants to trade a pair of medium size rainpants still in good condition hit me up.

Thanks for the response Randy. You are right IMBA has been working on this issue, as well as many others. The OMBA did a lot on this with IMBA input and many people around the state. Check out, http://www.ormba.net/, for what they were able to get done.
People need to act, do their research and they also need to work together. I wonder if Peter or Skip have talked to IMBA or OMBA? or even PUMP about their concerns, maybe they have and if so that is great. If they haven't they should, there has been a lot of work done and it would be a benefit for them not to have to do it again.

Hi All
I really am not trying top be negative, but this is not a new issue by a long shot. People need to realize that while hikers and horses are welcome, but mt bikes are no different then 4X4, motorcycles and quads in the Wilderness. I personally think that if mt bikes had been around when the Wilderness Act was written we wouldn't be in the this boat, but we are.
There is a really easy fix to this. Change the word "mechanized" to "motorized", but the politically will in not there.
IMBA and other groups and people have been working very hard for years on this issue.
I am frankly surprised it took Petr this long to act.
The ONRC stated under 50 miles of trails would be taken away, but in the end it is hundreds of miles of trails.
The ONRC would like to create other Wilderness area's around Oregon that will take away thousands of miles of access from mt bikers.
As to why Colorado, WV....it is because either there are major trail networks in danger in their area of being closed or the local IMBA groups have worked with local political leaders and forest service to create new trail projects. IMBA has sent out many releases about this Mt Hood wilderness project.

Hi All
I really do not mean to sound rude but...
This is called the Mt Hood Wilderness Act and it is not new news, it
has
been going on for years! There have been lots of meetings and open
houses.
This is why people should join groups like IMBA!
This is also a clear case of watch whom you work with...the mt bike
community trusted certain eco groups and in the end got screwed!
I hope you will sign the petition and I hope it is not too late.
Take Care

Hey Folks,
FYI: Many of the trails in the Mt Hood national forest are being
closed or may be closed for cycling. It appears that much of this is
being
done with little or no community involvement. Petr Kakes from SkiBowl
put us in contact with a gentlemen from Portland named Skip Sponsel.
He
has been lobbying for trail access in the area as well as new trail
project approval at Mt Hood SkiBowl ski resort.
Skip has agreed to come to USGP on Saturday to collect signatures.
(There will also be volunteers on hand with sheets)
Please take time out and sign the petition to keep trails open to

The OBRA EZ up tents should be better. They cost $400+ each. They are worth that though because of durability, ability to get parts and, not least, logos. This is one of the reasons though why I get so whacked when I see a single person trying to put one up or take it down with all the pieces getting stressed and occasionally bent or broken. It takes 2 people to put one up unless you are willing to replace parts. The other thing that drives me nuts is when the expensive logoed canopies are dragged along the ground, thrown in a pile and transported without being put in a bag. All this makes for holes that will end up be drips at rainy races that will go down my collar or on the keyboard at some rainy race.
Now that I have vented I will relax a bit.

One thing I've noticed about these canopy things is not all brands produce the same thing. I bought one at GI Joes or some place like that a year or two ago, and it's nice, but nowhere near the quality of some of the canopies in the OBRA equipment stash.
Post race at Hillsboro, I took my canopy down, cold fingers making it pretty difficult. I saw poor Josh breaking down his elaborate waffle vending station all alone, so I ran over to lend a hand. The canopies he was using were cool - no little push buttons to release the legs, but big metal loops you can PULL with GLOVES ON :) Here's where I realized not all canopies are created alike.
So if you're looking at getting one of these, which I highly recommend, I'd suggest checking out the mechanism for holding/releasing the telescoping legs. From my experience, that's the number one factor in reliability, durability, and ease of use. If the legs barely work in the store, imagine how they'll work covered in grime with cold fingers.
EZ-up seems to be the "good stuff."

Dang. I think in the past month I deleted some emails about that subject
that were several years old. I remember racing on those in a tournament at a
shopping center in the early 80's with Paul Robinson and Tim Rutledge when I
was on BBC. I think the last I heard was that they were last seen in storage
at Hutch's in Eugene.

Yes, they are in the basement at Hutch's.
Not all of the parts are present and/or functioning.
If someone wants to sponsor the rebirth of Roller Races,
I will get them back in working order.

Krummel Bike Safety Memorial Signs Make List for 2008 Special Session
(Salem) A measure to create bike safety memorial signs was approved for
consideration during
the February 2008 Special Session today by the House Elections, Ethics
and Rules Committee.
"I appreciate Legislative leadership bringing this issue back for
consideration, "said State Representative Jerry Krummel
(R-Wilsonville) who wrote the
measure for the 2007 Legislative Session. "It was heartbreaking to work
so hard on this bill only to see it rejected on party lines at
the end of Session." A request to vote on House Bill 3020
was defeated 31 to 26 on June 23rd
. Sadly,
several of the co-sponsors voted against the proposal.
HB 3020 would have allowed relatives of cyclists or pedestrians killed
on Oregon's roadways to request special memorial signs in certain
circumstances. Krummel sponsored "Eric's Law" on behalf of a
constituent, Lorna Kautzky, in memory of her husband Eric Kautzky
who was killed
in June of 2005 while riding his bike in Sherwood. Shortly after his
death, Krummel began working on a new state law to allow placement of
memorial signs and was able to get a pilot program adopted by Washington
County. (see picture below)
"I'm pleased to see this important public safety issue finally getting
the attention it deserves,"
said Lorna Kautzky. "I'm sorry to see politics take priority over real
human loss. I'm so frustrated something like this becomes a political
football for no apparent reason when in fact you're talking about a
loved one's life and a grieving family. I wish people understood the
emotional impact on family members. For two long years, I tried so hard
to get this law passed; reliving the tragedy
every time I talked to legislators."
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation
, from
2001-2005 there were
47 deaths, and more than 3,400 people injured in
3,500 bike and pedestrian crashes. "Perhaps all the recent news accounts
of bike fatalities have helped generate renewed interest in this common
sense legislation," explained Krummel. Supporters of
HB 3020 included the Bicycle Transportation Alliance
and Willamette Pedestrian Coalition along
with the Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition
.
