When I first read about the removal on the bike portland blog I immediatly started thinking about what could be done to preserve that beautiful, instantly iconic image. Your proposed solution completly transcends any need for the involvement of state or local bureaucracy to make it live on.
The power and relevance the the artist conveyed with the original piece was absolutley spot on, your idea to further the use of the image I feel is easily on par with thier initial intent.
What a great idea Candi, I hope it works.

I read today that ODOT removed the silhouette at the memorial for Brett. I
thought about how we might keep his memory alive for our members.
The sticker we hand our with our logo has run out and I wondered if you
thought it would be disrespectful if we replaced it with the silhouette of
Brett? Of if we created a new bumper sticker that we could use with it.
If you thought it was ok, we would have to contact the unknown artist and
see about getting artwork and maybe even a design.
Most of all I would not want to do anything to offend Brett's family or
friends
