Well put JD, and I couldn't agree with you more. I have raced in every art
of the country but only lived in the SE, the mid-Atlantic and now the NW and
while the SE and mid-Atlantic run close behind Portland, never have I
experienced such variety, depth and enthusiasm as I have since arriving here
just a year ago.
Just FYI, the NE and mid-Atlantic are some of the most competitive areas I
have ever raced and the SE is as well, but the SE rules when it comes to
friendliness and hospitality. Call me partial, having grown up there, but
it's one of the only places I have ever bumped elbows with someone in the
Peloton and heard an apology. Now you're got to love that! :-)
If you all only knew how much I write about this place and share its wonders
with the folks back home, you'd be quite pleased. No plans to start a new
ride, but I do intend to start getting out to the various ones here and
riding with as many people as possible next spring. I have only scratched
the surface and have already fallen in love with what I have found.
We are truly very blessed with what we have and I look forward to continuing
to explore it and share it, along with the rest of what I find with anyone
who'll listen.
Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. See you on the road soon.
Cheers,

One of the great things about the Bike Culture here in Oregon is there are
already sooooo many teams, clubs & organized rides that you could probably
ride with one of them every day of the week, some of the rides are hard core
hammer fests (every week) while others are more relaxed (with stops for
coffee & cake, not a bad thing). Yet other rides are gender and/or gearing
specific... there is something for everyone (hills, flats, fast, slow,
track, mountain, road, cross, geared bike, fixed gear only...) I think the
Oregon Cycling experience is THE Phenomenon and of course if you want to
start something new, you can do that too :)
Cheers
