I think you misunderstand the conversation. No one is attacking group rides where traffic laws and rules of the road are obeyed. All of the teams have group rides and they are legal. This thread addressed outlaw racing. There is a big difference between the two.

I think it's great that there are so many organized races of all sorts, and hats off to organizers and participants! But I personally prefer the informality, camaraderie, and fun of group rides.

I hope folks in the cycling community don't take it upon themselves to try to protect us from ourselves (we're big boys and girls) and criticise another fun, social way to have fun on a bike.

Group rides are where most racers start and many end, and it seems that the last thing we want is to create a schism within the riding community about this when so many people do both and both are positive.
