HELP: how do I get this u-lock off?!?

Maybe try squirting a bunch of WD-40 in the lock and go get yourself another
dozen Bic pens. I tried the Bic trick a couple years ago on an old Krypto
lock, and it was surprisingly effective.

easier and faster is a car jack, no ear plugs needed, place it against the bottom of the U, and the cross bar, slowly wind out the jack, watch cross bar pop off, feel sad, you now know how easy that can be.

doesn't work if the bike is in the way, does work though.

Reluctant but able to show you how if needed.

probably easiest and fastest is to use an handheld (as least a 4.5") angle grinder, maybe with a cutoff wheel, and just grind it through. Use earplugs (it will be loud) and dust mask (lots of metal and grinder wheel dust) and make sure no flammable products nearby (lots of sparks too). be careful with a cutoff wheel, as you get a slot don't wedge or force or etc. If a grinder wheel comes apart at 12000 rpm it could kill someone or you.

I would be tempted to try a high quality hacksaw first (bi-metal..) but it will probably not bit and be awfully slow anyway. also Could maybe take a drill to the key end ?

My gf lost the key to her old kryptonite lock (bless her heart) and we'd really like to sell/donate the bike it's attached to...actually, it's really attached to the wheel.

Anyway, it's old enough that we went through at least 10 BIC pens (and a hammer) to see if we could get it off. We don't have the "code" for the original key either.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get that go#@$m thing off? It's hardened steel (I assume), has anyone had any mluck cutting one off?

Will

I've used a small car jack to pry a u-lock off before. I fit it between the U legs down by the lock area and popped it apart pretty quickly.
