Hello,

My name is Brenna Lynn and I am a PhD student at the University Oregon. I am looking for fit male subjects (Category 4 and 5 cyclist) to participate in an exercise study. Subjects must be endurance-trained exercising at least 4-5 hours per week. Subjects will receive a free VO2max test and will be paid $140 for their participation in the study. Subjects must in Eugene or be willingly to commute to Eugene for four seperate days of testing.

If you are interested, please see the recruitment notice below and respond to my email address blynn1@uoregon.edu and not the OBRA list.

------------------------------------ > Recruitment Notice

Healthy, non-smoking males, age 18-40, are needed to study the effects of dehydration and heat on blood pressure following 60 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise on a stationary exercise bike.
Studies will take place in the Exercise and Environmental Physiology Laboratory (Room 166 Esslinger Hall) on four separate days. The testing on the first day will last approximately one hour and will consist of a maximal fatiguing exercise test on a stationary bicycle to measure fitness level. The testing on the second, third and fourth days will last approximately four hours and will include a 60 minute bout of moderate aerobic exercise on a stationary bicycle under the following conditions: 1) exercise at room temperature with fluid replacement to match sweat loss, 2) exercise at room temperature without any fluid replacement, and 3) exercise in a hot environment (86 degrees F) without fluid replacement. Measurements of blood pressure and blood flow will be taken at room temperature both before and after exercise on all days.
Subjects must be "endurance exercise trained", performing aerobic type exercise 4 or more days per week for about 1 hour each day. Subjects must be English speakers. Subjects must not be on any medications, must not be taking herbal remedies or dietary supplements. Subjects may not be using illegal/recreational drugs. Subjects with cardiovascular disease or respiratory disease, including asthma, emphysema, cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, may not participate in this study. In addition, subjects with metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, may not participate in this study. Subjects must not have had prior allergic reactions to drugs or medication, and will not be allowed to take any medications 24 hours before either study day. Subjects must also be able to swallow a pill the size of a multi-vitamin and have not had an adverse reaction to a hot environment.
This study is being conducted in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon. Subjects will be compensated for their participation in this study.
If interested please contact Brenna Lynn at 346-5527 or blynn1@uoregon.edu.
