Racing fender: I would suggest something minimal for the rear, since much discomfort comes from a cold wet lower back...protect it. You will get wet anyway, so I don't think the front is as critical. Get creative with duct tape and plastic...the corregated plastic material they used to use for political/for sale signs is light and strong. You don't need a complete fender, just something extending back from the saddle to keep the spray off your butt.

...if you plan it carefully, and get a nifty fender set up, it won't rain: "Murphy's Law!"

OBRA. I need yer help!
If I can coax this old poison filled body into some sort of condition good enough to make an effort at the Vanport Kermesse (and folks I have a long way to go... on the bike only three times since Dec. 15 yet still taking in same calories and beer... oh well what do ya do), I have a question in need of an answer. I asked God, but she was so tied up with wars, hunger, elections and the usual birth and death business she suggested I go to the OBRA list, where knowledge rules. So.... Question....
If I race the Kermesse (on a cold wet January morning) would it be "OK" or "appropriate" to put fenders on my bike? Is that against the rules of road racing? Thanks for responses...serious and fun.

ps Two years ago at the Race at Reehers I got to choose a prize. I went for the Mazza "home made" banana bread. GREAT PRIZE and Delicious! The best part however was that it was a prize I could share! That Burrito after the Test of Endurance was to die for and I almost did. But... after my Hillsboro cross race this year, I stopped by the Nomad tent and was given the best scone I have ever eaten in my life. Then at the Sunday USGP to receive that wonderful hot dog from Chris Taucher of Tireless Velo... really hit the spot. My memory fades after that (my appetite seems to never fade). The real prizes are the great people!
