Ladies and Gents, with only one week left to vote on USA Cycling
initiatives and Association trustees, I urge you to vote for Dave Iltis.
I've included his statement below. But what Dave does not state is his
internal relationships with in USA Cycling that have exposed poor
management and decision making processes over the last three years, and his
ability to debate the old guard within USA Cycling.
Change for the better is occurring slowly within USA Cycling. The biggest
problem is the internal culture which has denied discovery of the truth
about it's business assumptions for years. Even with all the evidence that
Dave and I have brought forth to USCF Trustees and USAC Directors, few if
any have taken the time to analyze the data themselves. If they did, the
evidence is overwhelming that membership drives USA Cycling, and by
supporting and investing in state associations, empowering key local clubs
and volunteer managers, community level bicycle racing would thrive on both
the road and mountain side, not to mention the tremendous opportunity for
growth in collegiate and in cross.
At this critical moment in the organization's time-line, and with all do
respect to Ryan Littlefield and John Allen, change right now within the
USCF Trustees will weaken the USCF Trustee's ability to muscle the
organization. And believe it or not, on the balance of USCF trustees,
though still largely disrespected by some key leaders within USA Cycling,
the recent mix of USCF Trustees has been mostly right in it's strategic
recommendations over the last four years.
Dave mentions his strong aversion to the license fee increase last year in
the statement below. His analysis was a fundamental element in the USCF's
condemnation of the increase. Dave's oratory and debating skills are
critical at this time. We need his smarts. We need his political
understanding, We need his relationships.
Remember. proxies need to be in the mail by September 15th. Please vote for
Dave Iltis for USCF Western Trustee

P.S. Dave doesn't support Initiative A or B. He thinks they both are
inferior. There is a much better solution, but we have to wait for some
internal and political attrition over the next few months.

Candidate Statement for Western Section USCF Trustee Election
For the past three years, I have been one of the strongest advocates for
membership on the USCF Board as well as any of the other USA Cycling
boards. Last fall, I argued strongly against the recent license fee
increases and co-wrote a resolution condemning this increase. I have
consistently opposed the removal of the membership voting rights and pushed
for their reinstatement. I successfully kept one-day license fees from
being raised again. I have put forth a number of good pieces of
legislation, and kept a number of bad ones from going through. I have
advocated for continued cooperation with NORBA. After all, we are all on
two wheels.
I have been the only one on any of the boards pushing to get the USA
Cycling Board to follow the Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act and USAC's own
bylaws and create a female director position on the USA Cycling Board. I
feel that this is necessary to continue to grow and strengthen women's
cycling in the U.S.
Weekly series races are the backbone of racing. I have worked to
institute low cost permits to cover these races and will continue to work
towards increasing the focus on your home town's Tuesday Night Criterium
series.
The USCF's representation at the local level needs to be reworked. We need
a renewed effort towards growing the sport. The regional representative
program needs overhauling. We need to give more credence to state
associations and our community cycling leaders. We need to do what is
necessary to unite cycling in the U.S. While alternative views and
organizations have been valuable in the short run to force the USCF and
USAC to reexamine their way of doing business, cooperation between the
various organizations and disciplines will ultimately result in a stronger
bicycle racing community. A unified community, by its size and
presentation, has more leverage with your local government, industry,
little sponsors, and big sponsors, and can produce more Joe Bike-Racers as
well as more Lance Armstrongs.
I have worked hard to force USA Cycling and the USCF to reexamine the way
they do business. While USAC and the USCF do many things from sanctioning
events to being the National Governing Body, Membership is the most
important aspect of that business. There are many in our sport that still
do not see that. Without a strong and vibrant membership, the USCF and
USAC are unsustainable. I have been relentless in advocating this view and
have upset some folks along the way, but while you may or may not see it
yet, USAC and the USCF ARE changing.
Change is growth. I ask for your support to help continue the growth.
