vanport/other courses

Sunday 3PMish
I am home, warm and thinking about my evening training table meal of fish, biscuits, spinach and well yes... beer. I must maintain non-condition to be the best I can be! Today I was slow but had more fun on the new course. I felt a little less like a greyhound on a track and more like a border collie at an agility trial... a little more! We all know these road, cross and mtb races are different with various hybrids of each. People enjoy them all. I love XC because of the tough vertical and trail condition challenges. Short track and Cross are very similar but have their own unique flavor. The Vanport Kermesse races are different from the Kruger's Kermesse. They all offer us challenges that we can take or pass on. After my first Vanport I was undecided about doing the next, but the course change has convinced me that the third one will be worth doing. Some good points have been made about different courses, times of year (including conditions) and locations of venues, but one thing is true. As long as there are two racers racing, one will like the course they are on better than the other. I think it all works out where people end up doing the races the enjoy. I just hope we continue to get people to try things outside of their comfort zone now and then... like me racing vanport and having fun.
There are just a large number of great people involved in OBRA (racers, promoters, officers etc.) and for it to be this strong shows it a flexible group that embraces positive change. Blah! Blah! Blah!...shut up ron.
