Hey all,
Wow, this is my winter of discontent.
First, I tweak one of my STI levers and break an $8 Shimano "special
tool" attempting to fix it. Verdict: The teeny tiny teeth on the lever's
hinge bracket are ruined. I'll have to live with it. It works though.
Second, and the biggest PITA by far is the apparent destruction of my
Cannondale's Headshok. I had this thing it to River City over the summer
for a repair of the damper unit (air leak). So a few dry Forest Park
rides, the Kruger's Crossing race, and one muddy rainy ride up in Forest
Park a few weeks ago and the front end is seized up.
The bearings are toast-- nasty gritty feel. The fork won't even
compress. I remove the zip-ties and look under the boot... theres a
stack of mud in there! How in tarnation did that happen?? The bike
hasn't been submerged. I've only washed it twice and never directed
pressurized water at the headtube.
I just want to scream. I already spent $120 to have the shock serviced.
I can't even imagine what all the bearings and the additional service is
going to cost.
Add to all the injury the insult of not even knowing how to service the
Headshok. I mean, seriously, I can deal with everything else on my
bikes. This is just irritating beyond belief.
Long story short: Anyone out there service their own Headshok? Any tips?
I almost can't afford to have this bike serviced!! At the very least
it'll have to wait another couple of months. :(
Thanks for reading and offering a shoulder for me to cry on.
Brian J.
