There used to be a nice piece of history on this event on the Team
RoseCity Website a few years ago. I think I have the site archived in my
bit-stash. If I can find it, I will post it online.

To the best of my recollection, we began POC in 1975, original course
being near Halsey (just east of the State TT course on Peoria Rd), where
"the wind is the hills."

The oldest bike race in Oregon is the Cascade Classic. The Classic - now in
its 29th year - is the oldest Stage Race in the US, and I really can't think
of any one-day Oregon races older than that.

If we're limiting our choices to MTB races, I'd have to guess maybe Spring
Thaw? Could be the Mudslinger, if Oakridge never came back.

The oldest bike race in Oregon is the Cascade Classic. The Classic - now in its 29th year - is the oldest Stage Race in the US, and I really can't think of any one-day Oregon races older than that.

If we're limiting our choices to MTB races, I'd have to guess maybe Spring Thaw? Could be the Mudslinger, if Oakridge never came back.

Another good question?
What is the oldest race in Oregon?
I am not sure what the answer is?
Oakridge was first held in 1986 as part of Judge Waldo Days as was pointed out by a post last week.
My first race was Oakridge in 91 or 92 I can't remember now...I just remember there were like 150 in my class and I was thrilled finish 40th, there were 5 of us that raced our first race that day and we all got top 50, one of our friends won it and by his 3rd race he was racing Expert, just shows you never know until you try.

Remember the guy from Indiana (I think) at Shotgun Creek, it was his first race and he won the beginner class and he turned around and raced Sport and got 3rd after getting a flat, he was able to race both because while I was up fixing the arrows the moto's moved I was ran off the road and my van ended up in the ditch, and it took a while to get back to start the advanced classes.

OOOO the good old days.

Don't know but I raced the first three Mud Slingers. '88 -'90 I
believe. It
was my first mountain bike race ever and being a cat II on the road, I
was
told I would have to be a pro and line up with Tinker despite my
objections.
I was with a lead group of five nearing the top of the first long
climb
when I somehow managed to rip the rear derailleur off the frame. I
coasted
back down the hill to the start and hung out to see the results. During
the
awards ceremony, I was given the "hard luck" prize of a new derailleur.

Yes sir you are correct sir!
Eric Long would have loved that course... 2.5-4 mile spectator/ family friendly laps
Reg in the old house on stilts
Original paper from the day Kennedy was killed, along with other interesting things hanging inside.
Home of the worlds 4th largest Yew Tree
Then the commune people voted that Mt Biking was bad for Mother Earth and asked me to leave after I built them a sweet trail network and it was out to the nightmare of Shotgun Creek.
