As you all have heard we are in the process of changing our road upgrade
policies. This change was brought about because of the reciprocity agreement
that we have with USAC. The reciprocity agreement for 2008 has a few
sticking points and we may not be renewing it. However, it is everyone's
best interest, to maintain the same category structure with other states.
I have a long history with USAC and know that many times changes are
mandated from the top without much consideration how it impacts the actual
racing. Because of this I am a little relunctant to jump into the new
upgrade pool with both feet. Giving points to races that do not meet the
field requirements has good points and bad. We need to develop a standard
on how many of the required points can come from 'non qualified' races. I
also think that asking people to move up when they hit the minimun number of
points is short sighted. Especially for upgrades to Cat 2.
The Board of Directors has a meeting set for March 8 to discuss all of these
items. Your comments are valuable.
