road bike for a junior

This is most likely NOT what you want, but may be of interest to folks

trying to put together junior squads, especially those with "growing"

juniors.

Late last spring I found myself admiring the junior/sm women's hybrid bikes

at REI. On one particular model, the break and handlebar set up was

city/mtn, however the price, under $225 I think, and overall construction,

made me think that converting the bars for road/cross would be something

worth looking into. Thanks for reminding me to re-explore what they have to

offer.

Our own son's first "real" racing bike was REI's smallest women's Novara,

which I'm not certain that they still make. At that time it was an

affordable and very functional choice.

Can anyone tell me where and maybe even what to buy for a junior that wants

a road bike. He's 12 and this would be his first serious road bike. I'm

thinking about maybe a TREK from Bike Gallery. Any help would be

appreciated.

Thanks,

Lisa
