I really do not care weather most of you wear a helmet or not. I ride a lot in Europe where in most places it is optional and a lot of group rides there will be riders without helmets. I am acustomed to non helmeted riders.
I do love irony. It right up there with cycling as a pastime. I find it extremely ironic that most of you belong to one if not two organizations that require helmets for all activities associated with those organizations (OBRA and USA cycling). I think the reason we have to wear helmets is because insurance companies require it, though it might be because Mike and Candy have decided it is safer for you.
My health insurance company doesn't know I ride a bike and has never asked. When they do ask they will probably make me wear a helmet. They don't care about me they want to save money.
So I guess it may be ok if we are required to wear a helmet so some insurance company wants to save money (capitalism) but not if the government makes us (socialism).
