Sick of bike route shut downs

This has been one of my pet peeves. I make a point to stop and talk to the construction crews about the need to state that the bike lane is closed, or that they need to move their signs.

Just a thought for the lawyers out there. Are bicycle lanes considered lanes of traffic? If so, wouldn't they require permits to shut them down, the same as a road? Also, wouldn't the construction crews be opening themselves up to a huge liability if a bicyclist was struck while moving out into traffic because of a sign they placed in the middle of a lane of traffic?

Just some thoughts,
Kevin

On that subject - though the long term closure of 205 has me frustrated too - is the "nonchalant" way construction crews will put their big orange signs in the bike path, forcing me out into the traffic on sometimes very busy streets. Not sure what the solution is, but I've had some close calls as a result.

NO!

By the mere 'mention' of the helmet thread you have propagated the helmet thread only under a different subject title.

The I-84 corridor was closed down in the proximity of the construction zone
due to the lack of effective helmet enforcement in Oregon. Once Oregon
cyclists are forced to wear helmets the corridor will be open again.

So, once again. Planned my bike route after the dentist to work, and what
do you know, just like the 205 rerouting (don't get me started), then the 84
path between 122 and 148th had a big closed sign on it to. No detour, just
closed, sorry. Come to find they were parking some vehicles on it for
another construction project. Anyone else getting totally sick of the
seemingly nonchalant attitude of "it's just a bike lane/route, just shut it
down, it's not important." Why did we dump a huge amount of $ into the
powell bridge, to close it less than a year later 6 months before any
construction was underway in the vicinity? AHHH!

p.s. Maybe this will dissuade the helmet thread
