Elkhorn Updates and women's opportunities...

Elkhorn Classic

2008-03-01

Just a few quick but exciting updates.

First off - nice job to the officials and volunteers who have helped
start the season off on an amazing note. Thank you!

Regarding Elkhorn, we continue to get inquires from returning riders as
well as new riders from all over!!!

To respond to one of the more common questions: Friday's course returns
to the traditional Stage-1 "Oregon Trail Road Race" route which runs
west through North Powder, around to Union, then up the very challenging
Catherine Creek Canyon, and around Frazier Mountain, before the famed
"rolling" countryside back to Baker City. Last year's use of the
alternate "Richland Outback Road Race" course was due solely to ODOT
construction. This year, not only are we returning to our favored and
well-known Stage-1 route, we are also adding a second feedzone to help
keep you cool and refreshed.

Now the big news: Thanks to the amazing support of several Baker City
downtown businesses led by Beverly Calder, the owner of Bella's in
downtown Baker City and a huge supporter of women's racing, we are able
to offer two excellent opportunities for women racers at this year's
Elkhorn Classic Stage Race. Here is the chance for women racers to be a
part of something very special:

FREE ELKHORN CLASSIC HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN ALONG WITH PRIZE
MONEY PARITY FOR WOMEN
Same pain, more gain: Women racers won't want to miss the 2008 Elkhorn
Classic Stage Race in Baker City

FREE HOUSING

EQUAL GAIN FOR EQUAL PAIN
Since the first Elkhorn in 2002, Women's Pro/1/2 and 3/4 have raced the
same course as the men's categories, but prize money was a different
story. New this year, women racers stand to race and win as much as the
men. BELLA Main Street Market has partnered with race organizers to
achieve prize money parity between the men's and women's categories.
Register for the Elkhorn Classic Stage Race now for an epic ride and
give our sponsors a race to remember!

Though it is still early in the year, we'd like to remind people that
registration is already open and field sizes are limited. Many racers
have already signed up, and now here is a chance for women racers to be
a part of something special.

Have fun, ride safe...
