SRAM Left Lever Question

Joel is right, Dave. The issue has nothing to do with head-sphincter insertion. ;0

Sram had the Genius idea of designing the front derailleur so that you don't really need trim (WHAT?!! Surely you jest!). No . . . REALLY! I have the supposedly inferior Rival group on 2 of my own bikes and have no chain rub in the big ring until I use the big/big combo (A.K.A. "cross-chain" which we all know is pointless and, well, accelerates the wear on your chain with or without the rub).

According to Sram, Red internals do not fit into Force or Rival lever bodies. Like Joel said, check your front der. alignment/adjustment. You should be able to hit at least 9 gears while in the big ring with no rub.

If you can't make the adjustment, make friends with a shop mechanic who knows Sram. A lot of the shop guys are scared to death of anything new, so this could be tough, but you'll likely find a Sram-friendly tech if you ask around.

If all else fails, I'm just an email away.

"The outer cage plate of the Force front derailleur is precisely shaped
to allow you to use all 10 cogs on your cassette while you're in the
big chainring with minimal chain rub. And when you're in the small
chainring the Force DoubleTap shift lever will allow you one trim
adjustment based on your chain angle, allowing you to use any cog in
complete silence when you're in the small ring."

I'd check your derailleur alignment. I never get chain rub in the big ring, and can trim in the lower as advertised. And that 50-26 combo I have got used a LOT this last weekend. = )

2008/3/3 Dave Campbell :

I have a Force Gruppo.
Love it.
The Front derailleur lever LACKS a "half click stop
on the big ring". They have addressed this with Red. It is the only
annoyance for me with the Force and means that on a 12-23 cogset, the chain rubs
on the 21 and the 19 on the big ring which frankly sucks and is unbecoming of
top end stuff.

So...does anyone know of a way to address it?
Can shops put new Red internals inside a Force lever?

Anyone?

PS: My head is NOT in need of removing from
my sphincter..I don't think anyway!

Best,
DC
