Mt. Hood Cycling Classic Just 16 Days Away!

Crews are working hard to plow snow, clear storm debris, and create one of the most amazing racing experiences for all of you! This year marks our 10th anniversary and we have some great fun lined up!

Registration

Registration is going strong and we are anticipating a good turnout for this year’s event. Be sure and register by May 28th to avoid the late fee of $25. After that you can register up to June 6th. For more information on registration go to www.pros.mthoodcyclingclassic.com/registration if you are a pro and click on here www.obra.mthoodcyclingclassic.com/registration if you are not quite a pro yet.

Course Updates

Courses are coming along with the standard spring time cleaning of the Stage #4 Three Summits Road Race presented by Indie Hops as well as a change to the Stage #1 Columbia Hills Road Race presented by Garmin. Due to a huge transmission line project that Bonneville Power is working on to connect the wind farms of Eastern Oregon into the power grid we have to make a course change for this year. The new course will feature many of the same roads, climbs and terrain as the old one but will have a new start/staging area as well as a finish. The finish will be a fun and exciting one with the final 300 meters up a little climb to separate the riders. New info on stage #1 is online and ready to be viewed.

For Stage #4 Three Summits Road Race we have once again submitted a plow permit with the Forest Service and are lining up equipment to do snow removal. Conditions and snow pack are definitely less than last year however we still have some stubborn drifts that will not be gone by race time. We plan to have the course open by Friday June 1st so riders can review the race course the prior weekend.

Lodging

Lodging always goes quickly in Hood River so do not wait until the night before to book your lodging. Both our lodging partners offer great rates and amazing rooms and have supported this event every single year for the past 10 years. So not only book with them but give them a huge thank you when you check in and let them know how much we appreciate all they do. Best Western Hood River Inn is located right on the Columbia River and easy access from the highway. They will also be hosting Thursday night’s packet pickup. Cooper Spur Mountain Resort is the deal of the century for teams and groups. The rates on their condos and cabins are the cheapest per head cost than any other lodging establishment in Hood River and have great amenities like kitchens, living room, hot tubs, etc. In addition it is where stage #4 ends and the party begins so if you would like to shower and relax right after your race and before you head home give them a call. You can find links to both and more information on our lodging page at http://www.obra.mthoodcyclingclassic.com/race-info/accomodations/

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will be located at the Best Western Hood River Inn on Thursday night from 4-8 PM. A mandatory team managers meeting for the Pro 1-2 Women and Pro 1-2 Men will be at the hotel and start at 6:00 PM. If you plan to have a team car in the caravan you must attend this meeting.

Shuttle Service for Time Trial

A number of you have inquired and yes we will have a shuttle service lined up for the Scenic Gorge Time Trial. This is one of the most amazing time trial courses in the country and unique in its point to point format. We will have two shuttles and trailers transporting you and your bikes back to the start line throughout the stage.

Tour de Hood Challenge

Not quite ready to throw down for three days and four stages of racing. Then consider riding the Tour de Hood Challenge. The ride has a 50 mile challenge as well as the full 75 mile course that follows the Three Summits Road Race. Riders depart from Cooper Spur at 8:00 AM and the goal is to finish before the pros. This fully supported ride will now feature timing so you can actually see how far you were ahead of your friends when the ride is done. Good Morning Northwest Racers!

I wanted to remind all of you that we are just three weeks away from the 2012 Mt. Hood Cycling Classic June 8-10th. We are excited that we are celebrating out 10 year anniversary this year and hope all of you will come join us in celebrating this significant event. In commemorating our 10 year anniversary we will be posting fun facts and photos from the past 10 years of racing history on our Facebook page. So be sure to login and like us to be able to check this out.

Due to a massive transmission line project that is behind schedule we are going to have to make changes to our stage #1 Columbia Hills Road Race Course. We will launch this update on Monday with new course maps and information. It will still be a fast sprinters race with a little kicker hill at the end. We just want to make sure the sprinters have something fun to contest before we send them out on the Three Summits Road Race. Speaking of Three Summits we scouted the course yesterday and have posted pictures and info on Facebook. So be sure and check it out. For updated course info and registration check us out at www.mthoodcyclingclassic.com

Finally a reminder that registration is open for the Cascade Cycling Classic July 17-22nd. Great courses await all of you as well as Bend, Oregon’s amazing hospitality and beer! So check out the race at www.cascade-classic.org and www.visitbend.com for all your lodging and entertainment needs.

We hope to see all of you at the starting line in June!

Mt. Hood Cycling Classic

2008-03-06

Good Morning OBRA!

The Mt. Hood Cycling Classic is excited to announce the addition of two new supporting shops for the 2008 Mt. Hood Cycling Classic. River City Bicycles in Portland and Bend Bike N Sport will join Discover Bicycles in Hood River as the sponsoring shops of the event. They are also your official drop off sites for race registrations this year with an added bonus. Every rider that drops off a registration at one of these three shops before April 15th will receive a $10 gift card for that particular shop. A great way to stock up on GU and tubes before the race! In addition weekly information will be posted at these locations on course info, race updates, and other information.

The web site will be updated with all the new course information by Wednesday March 12th. One of the biggest changes will be the new locations of stages 1 and 2. Stage #1 will run on down at Portland's river front on Naito Parkway Tuesday night from 3-8 p.m. We have commitments from nearly all the top NRC teams this year and the level of competition will be phenomenal. Plus we will have a kid's race in conjunction with it and event expo. Stage #2 will see the nations best lining up on one our favorite local courses, Mt. Tabor. The race times will be the same running from 3-8 p.m. with a kid's race and expo as well.

CAT 2/3 and masters races will be similar to last year with the exception of stage #1 the Cooper Spur Circuit Race. Due to scheduling conflicts both of these groups will race in the morning starting at 9:00 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. Packet pick up will be available for you both the night before in Hood River or the Thursday morning at the race start.

To all categories do NOT wait until the last second to register. Early registration numbers are off the charts right now and we will fill categories well before the race. Field limits have to be adhered to so exceptions and expansion of field sizes will not be made.

Good luck to all of you in your spring racing and remember to keep the rubber side down!

Sincerely,
Chad Sperry
