Fw: Keen shoes

I was miss-understood because I probably worded it poorly. I do NOT think that buying then returning an item unless there is a REAL legit problem with the product. I happen to have been an REI member for many many years and have returned one item... (the first generation of gore-tex that failed). A good friend of mine worked for REI and spoke of how many lame excuses were used to return items. My point was not to say that type of behavior is right. Sorry I was not clear about that. I think those out there who know me are clear that I do not operate that way or encourage others to "cheat". So. Not to worry Kurt unless I actually made someone do just that type transaction. I hope I did not.

Hello Ron,

I'm glad that you found some cycling sandals but couldn't help commenting on the ethics behind your "personal return policy". To suggest that someone "try out" a pair and return them simply because they can (not because of a manufacture's defect, premature wear, etc) is pretty lame. As big as REI might appear to most of us (1 billion+ annual sales) it is often the manufacture who foots the bill on "returns" such as this.....a cost that can put a small start-up company out of business or increases next years product for all of us....not to mention perhaps the inability for a manufacture to support local sporting events (cycling, running, skiing, etc) with all those wonderful raffles, primes and door prizes that make even a small event something special.

I might recommend re-thinking your position on returns and perhaps use the internet as well as the knowledge of the store's sales staff to become an informed shopper before your next purchase so it works out for everyone involved.

Kurt

Just in case anyone is interested...

I remember a number of months ago or longer that there was some talk about getting Keen to produce a shoe that accepted cleats. I was in REI this past week and sure enough they have one on sale in both men and women specific sizes. It looks like it is based on the "Newport" model, but as I remember the model is called the "Commuter". Looks like a good quality build. I love my Keens, but would like to have one to try before a purchase. Of course REI's return policy is about as "easy" as it gets. You could buy 'em, wear them a year and then return them saying you did not like them (which many customers do). Anyway. Thought those that wanted a casual cleated shoe might be interested in checking them out.
