The bridge has been closed since Aug 2006, but should be repaired
and reopened before the end of this year. A lengthy insurance claim
has delayed the repair process. This recent press release from
Clackamas County WES clarifies the bridge status:

Clackamas County's 82nd Drive Bridge project progressing

Clackamas County's Water Environment Services (WES) staff announced today that the design of the 82nd Drive Bridge is 90 percent complete which means that construction to repair the bridge could begin anytime after July 4 and be completed around October.

Clackamas County Service District No.1 (CCSD#1) assumed ownership of the bridge, which it currently owns and maintains, from the City of Gladstone in 1998 for the purpose of carrying future utility lines across the Clackamas River.

A brush fire, which occurred Aug. 14, 2006, severely damaged the south timber approach spans beyond repair, said Randy Rosane, WES Civil Engineering Supervisor. However, the project is currently under design to replace the damaged timbers with pre-stressed concrete in order to reopen the bridge to pedestrian traffic.

With the design work currently at 90 percent completion, CCSD#1 should be ready for solicitation of construction bids by April 25. The bidding period will last approximately three weeks.

Once bids are received and a low responsive bidder has been identified the District will make a recommendation to the Clackamas County Board of County Commissioners to authorize the Director of Water Environment Services to enter into and execute a contract with the low responsive bidder.
