Mike,
My name is Steve Barsby. I'm an ex Portland area resident and avid
recreational cyclist.
Right now I'm trying to help the twice-winner of RAAM (Race Across
AMerica) Gerry Tatrai complete his support crew for this year's race. It
starts in Portland on July 18th and ends (I think) in Pensacola. The winner
will finish in about 8-1/2 days.
We need energetic guys (or gals, but we'll be room sharing) for the van
support including a mechanic or two. When I crewed for Gerry in 1998, he
paid for motels and much of our food, though we had incidental expenses. I
suspect Gerry and I will be driving back to Portland to return one or more
rented vehicles, so transportation back shouldn't be a problem.
If you could pass the word around, or post a message, I'd really
appreciate it. Also, if you could put me onto other potential contact
points that'd be great, too. Crewing is challenging and rewarding. It can
be fun, but it's also a lot of work.
Please e-mail me if you have any questions or can "put" me onto some other
folks.
