What do you do with your old components?

in addition to all the recycle options, consider donating them to either the CCC or city bikes.

The CCC has kids who tear that stuff apart to learn on
City BIkes might give you $5 for a whole bag and put them in their parts room. someone might just need a 1986 dura ace rear dérailleur inner plate!

I have old derailleurs & broken shifters, rims too worn to be re-used, worn out chainrings & cassettes & some other stuff...

so what creative things do YOU do with your old components ? can someone re-purpose them ?

Thanks

There are people that like to make "things" out of old bike components but even they are getting picky.
In the parking lot of Johns Market on Multnomah Blvd, there is a metal recycling truck. Just leave your old metal stuff, and /or computer stuff there to be recycled.

you can send stuff like chains, chain rings, freewheels (no one here
probably uses them anymore) to Resource Revival by visiting a bike shop.

Matt Cartwright does some amazing sculptures with bike parts.

I throw broken/worn out/unusable metal components in the recycling
bin. I remove any plastic bits first. I save bolts and other
fasteners, but I've put ruined rims and worn out chainrings and cogs
into the recycle bins.

I'm starting to collect too many very well used components in my spare parts
bin, that I want to get rid of, stuff that isn't worth much or is too worn
out to be re-used, so I'm trying to figure out some creative way to get rid
of it without sending it to the landfill. I have old derailleurs & broken
shifters, rims too worn to be re-used, worn out chainrings & cassettes &
some other stuff...

so what creative things do YOU do with your old components ? can someone
re-purpose them ?

Thanks
