The Alpenrose Velodrome's rental c-container has had an unofficial OBRA used cycling clothing/shoe/peddle box for several years now. I think Bill Cass started it, but it might have been the Murrays...duh.
I've been recycling my stuff through it, Bike Central and several others have contributed. Thanks!
Point is, new riders have been using the stuff and our primary goal with the Track Development Classes (TDC) is to promote new ridership. During the summer we get lots of new track riders at the TDC every Wednesday. Many of them are young and financially strapped and the donations truly help. One week they're in a t-shirt, baggie shorts and tennis shoes, the next they've got on a real jersey, shorts, and/or some cycling shoes.
We can use jerseys, shorts, gloves, arm/leg/knee warmers, saddles, bar ends and tape, but shoes and peddles are a real blessing. Any and all types of peddles are good. I get many riders who show up to the classes with their cycling shoes but no peddles that fit.
So, April 10th when you come to the track for clean up, try and kick down for the newbies. They love it!
PS:
Looking for TDC instructors. Contact me if you can help.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Alpenrose annual clean up day, April 19
The annual clean up day for the velodrome will be Saturday April 19.
Hopefully we will have dry weather that day. Show up ready to paint, pull
weeds, lift and carry stuff, etc. Starts at 10:00 AM and we will be there
all day. Please show up because we need the help.
If you haven't been to one of these seasons before you should go. In the
past we have had lots of people show up and hopefully this year will be the
same. Lots of people make the work go quickly. In many ways it is a lot like
a barn raising. It is very satisfying to see people giving back to the bike
racing community and to see the velodrome look good.
Free pancake breakfast provided by Chris King!!!
Free lunch provided by Portland Velodrome Committee!
