WebCyclery Movie Night @ McMenamins Presents A SUNDAY IN HELL
April 14th
A fundraiser for Central Oregon Trail Alliance
Old St Francis School Theater - Bend, Oregon
9 PM - $5 - 21 & Over

Come join the crew of WebCyclery for A Sunday In Hell -- a documentary covering the 1976 edition of the one-day Paris-Roubaix bicycle race, which is usually the most dramatic of the Spring Classics on the professional cycling calendar.

A good portion of Paris-Roubaix takes place over narrow, bumpily-cobbled roads that become choked with dust on dry days and treacherously slick and muddy on rainy days... hence the nickname "The Hell of the North" that gives the film its title.

This classic film shows us the preparations of the stars - Eddie Merckx, Francesco Moser, Roger De Vlaeminck - before portraying the race itself with great cinematography and music that reminds us that this film was definitely made in 1976! It lingers on personal details like Merckx's perfectionist obsession with his saddle height, the dedication of the fans and the crazy-hard work required by the race support crews. In addition to the awesome race coverage, we love this film because of the vintage bikes, clothing and haircuts.

Kevin Gorman, a film critic known for his thumbs-up and thumbs-down reviews with his brother and fellow critic, Mean Todd, has praised A Sunday In Hell and heralded it as "The sweetest 70's Paris Roubaix bike race movie ever." Mean Todd continued the accolades and added, "As long as you're going to be at McMenamins drinking a beer, you might was well be watching A Sunday In Hell at the same time."

While WebCyclery Movie Night at McMenamins is a fund raiser for Central Oregon Trail Alliance, it is mostly an excuse to get together with a theater full of like-minded cyclists to watch kick-ass bicycle movies, eat some tater tots, and maybe win a cool door prize.

Hope to see you there!
