Yeah, it's open category, nice long race, what more could you ask for?

In my experience, many women masters 40+ and 50+, esp. those who are Cat4, do in fact race their category at the rehearsal.

Hi All,

Here's the first installment of information for the upcoming Rehearsal Road Race (May 24th) and OBRA Road Race (June 14th) championship events.

The course is the same as last years' Three Rivers Road Race. The 16-mile circuit features a long gradual climb and accompanying power - descent and a short uphill finish. There are plenty of chances to move up in the field, via technical turns and short punchy rollers. Last year we saw everything from successful breakaways, to pack finishes, to shattered fields.

I would like input on the following:

1) I have heard the Women 3 may prefer to race in the "Women Senior" group. Right now we have them separate, as we were following formats from previous years. In any case we will score them separately. I would prefer to combine the groups, to have one less field on the road.....comments? The combined race would occur at the 10:30 start time.

2) Vendors..... I've often wondered about the racers perception / want of vendors at events, and also vendors perceptions as to whether its worth their while. I had thought to ask a food vendor (maybe the High Schools Booster Club), a nutrition / supplement vendor, a personal coach type, a local clothing company....like I've seen at cross races. Do people want this? Any vendors out there that are interested? Who have I missed?

Our goal is to provide you really fine championship events. Please review the flyer ( http://www.obra.org/flyers/2008/road_race_championships.pdf ), consider the above, and give us some feedback to make that goal a success.

We already have plans to add a motion-based link for a map of the route.

I don't have any feedback on the proposed questions, but I was wondering
why the Masters 40-49 is the only Masters group that will not really
have the opportunity to race on both days (Race their category and race
their age) unless they choose to race the Senior Men category on June
14th, which is not a viable option for most Masters men aged 40-49. I am
guessing that the vast majority of Masters men aged 40-49 are Cat's 3,4
and 5 and it would have been nice to have the opportunity to race in our
category at the rehearsal and then in our age group at the OBRA Road
Race like all of the other Masters age groups get to do.

If it is a matter of spreading the races out on the two days, why not
move some of the races/racers who are less likely to race a category
race over into that Masters 40-49 slot and vice versa? I am pretty sure
there are a whole lot more Masters Men aged 40-49 that would race their
category also, if given the chance than there are Masters Men 60+ or
Womens 50+ or Juniors 10 to 14 who would race a category race at the
rehearsal.

I am guessing it may be too late to change anything at this point, but I
would hope we could think through the format a little better in the
future and use all of the great statistical information we have
available to us in making these decisions.

Thanks

Hi All,

Here's the first installment of information for the upcoming Rehearsal
Road Race (May 24th) and OBRA Road Race (June 14th) championship events.

The course is the same as last years' Three Rivers Road Race. The
16-mile circuit features a long gradual climb and accompanying power -
descent and a short uphill finish. There are plenty of chances to move
up in the field, via technical turns and short punchy rollers. Last year
we saw everything from successful breakaways, to pack finishes, to
shattered fields.

I would like input on the following:

1) I have heard the Women 3 may prefer to race in the "Women Senior"
group. Right now we have them separate, as we were following formats
from previous years. In any case we will score them separately. I would
prefer to combine the groups, to have one less field on the
road.....comments? The combined race would occur at the 10:30 start
time.

2) Vendors..... I've often wondered about the racers perception / want
of vendors at events, and also vendors perceptions as to whether its
worth their while. I had thought to ask a food vendor (maybe the High
Schools Booster Club), a nutrition / supplement vendor, a personal coach
type, a local clothing company....like I've seen at cross races. Do
people want this? Any vendors out there that are interested? Who have I
missed?

Our goal is to provide you really fine championship events. Please
review the flyer (
http://www.obra.org/flyers/2008/road_race_championships.pdf ), consider
the above, and give us some feedback to make that goal a success.

We already have plans to add a motion-based link for a map of the route.
