POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Graphic and Merchandising Designer, Trade
Reports to: Marketing Communications Manager
Location: Beaverton, OR
General Description:
This position is responsible for the design of critical go-to-market
collateral and merchandising materials that support, improve and grow
Yakima¹s in-store presence. The Graphic and Merchandising Designer for Trade
will deliver exceptional creative and merchandising materials that eases the
selling and purchasing process, delivering continuous improvement against
key performance metrics.
Scope & Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the design and final production of all packaging, fit
guides, dealer workbooks, tradeshow visuals and in-store merchandising
displays for Yakima¹s technical product line
2. Design and/or support the development and production of technical
instruction manuals
3. Manage cross-functional creative development timelines in support of
critical go-to-market initiatives
Specific Duties:
1. Executes the design and strategic delivery of marketing materials
targeted for Yakima customers (the dealer)
2. Designs and executes all creative and copy writing materials for
product packaging and instructions
3. Executes the design and development of comprehensive merchandising
solutions that support Yakima distribution channels
4. Collaborates with category business management, sales, fit team and
outside vendors to produce biannual vehicle fit list and pre-season sales
programs
5. Produces art elements and copy writing for various printed
collateral, including dealer support pieces, product tags, forms, brochures,
etc
6. Implements the creative development for annual trade and consumer
shows
7. Maintains and distributes, when necessary, an archive of digital
artwork, illustrations, photos and graphics
8. Maintains communication with outside services including printers,
service bureaus, language translators, merchandising vendors and independent
contractors as needed
9. Provide support for other members of the Marketing Department by
completing various tasks relating to both consumer and trade communication
efforts
10. Maintain records and digital files for graphic projects and original
artwork
1. Carry out other duties, responsibilities, and projects as may be assigned
in an effective manner
Qualifications:
1. Degree in graphic arts, similar vocational training, or 3+ years
related professional design experience required
2. Two years minimum experience in packaging design and
implementation; layout and print process of various packaging methods.
Includes printing on corrugated cardboard, chipboard, poly bag, label
material
3. Two years minimum experience with structural and non-structural
retail merchandising concepts, techniques, display methods and associated
standard hardware
4. Excellent technical writing and technical illustration design
skills required
5. Expert status with Mac OSX system function and software,
including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc), UPC
software and Microsoft Office required
6. Ability to complete and manage projects with minimal oversight
and against aggressive timelines
7. Ability to work cooperatively, and communicate well with
inter-departmental personnel - works closely with staff from Marketing,
Engineering, Product Development, Document Control and Purchasing
Departments
8. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, project
management and graphic design skills required
Physical Requirements:
1. Duties require normal physical workstation activities including
sitting for lengthy periods at a workstation/desk
2. Occasional lifting or moving materials and product that may weigh up
to 50 pounds
3. Must have corrected vision to 20/30 and be able to distinguish colors
and tints.
4. Limited travel as required less than 5% of time via vehicle or
commercial carrier
