Bicycle races at Portland International Raceway start up for the summer
Featuring an introduction to bicycle racing clinics for women!
Summertime at Portland International Raceway on Monday nights means bicycle
racing. For 2008¹s series we are featuring clinics to introduce women to the
sport. These clinics coincide with the Monday night races. This summer will
be the 12th season of bicycle racing on Monday nights at PIR.
The new clinics will run on the second Mondays of the month, and will focus
on the basics of how to get started in racing. There will be a brief intro
talk prior to the race start, followed by debriefing after the race.
Experienced women racers will lead this. This is a great way to see what
racing is all about, ask questions and meet other women that are riding.
Clinics will run approximately 30 minutes before the novice women¹s race and
30 minutes after the race finishes.
³There is a huge growth potential in women¹s cycling, and the introduction
to racing clinics we have planned will allow for a easy way for women to see
what the sport is all about,² says Jim Anderson, Race Organizer. ³We
partnered with some great local women racers and coaches to provide
guidance, support and information for a sport that is somewhat complex.²
All levels and abilities are welcomed and encouraged to attend: all that¹s
required is a helmet, a road bike and a sense of adventure. Experienced
riders from local racing teams are on hand to provide guidance and answer
questions. There are separate races for novice masters men (aged 30+),
novice women, two categories for more experienced masters men, and an open
women category for women of any age and ability.
