Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't filing a protest with the officials

at the race the "proper" thing to do? Then each side can tell their

story and have a judgment made. The OBRA list is a great forum for

discussion but not so great for action.



Everyone should take a look at the NORBA rulebook (hard to do for OBRA

folks...) and understand what is expected from you and other racers and

act

appropriately. And a little empathy doesn't hurt.



Ultimately, it's up to each racer to decide whether any given action is

more likely to result in a better result or in a disqualification or

suspension. And it's up to the officials and promoters to give the

rules some teeth.

I recently had the pleasure and the pain of competing in my first

Mountain Bike race. "The Chainbreaker". I say pleasure because for most

of the race I really did enjoy it. I say pain because approximately 2

miles from the end someone wiped me out from behind and left me laying

face down in the dirt.
