10 speed chains?

Yeah, just be sure to use a new chain with the new gears, otherwise it
will be an expensive mistake ;)

I think Erik has a very good point, a new cog set might be in order. Spencer, If you get a new cog set and maybe rings too depending on how worn they are, I will give you a new SRAM 10speed chain. If it breaks, Give it back and I will send it to SRAM.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] 10 speed chains?

anyone else in OBRA land have issues with 10 speed chains not having a long lifespan. i have 1 week on a dura race chain and its shot after less than 200 miles.

i'd go with SRAM, but after two busted chains i cant use those either. if anyone has any suggestions let me know. this last DA chain is already worn and i couldnt have done anything to wreck it in a week.

thanks

For the conspiracy-minded among us, this is just another ploy by the
component manufacturers to get us to buy more replacement parts more
often. For grungy applications like touring, commuting, and my
dedicated foul-weather trainer, I'm still clinging to 7/8 speed
drivetrains for just that reason. They look like motorcycle chains next
to the new bling, but they tolerate being ridden hard and put away wet
at least 3X as long.

I'm sure the 10-speed chains make pretty necklaces, though.

I have had problems when my drivetrain was not properly alinged (bent
hanger). But I get between 1000 to 1250 miles per chain. Not as much as
my 9-spd, sadly.

I have had problems when my drivetrain was not properly alinged (bent hanger). But I get between 1000 to 1250 miles per chain. Not as much as my 9-spd, sadly.

Sounds like your cogs are worn out. It doesn't take long to kill a
chain if you use it on well worn cogs.

I don't see how else you could kill a chain in 200 miles. What makes
you think it's shot?
