Yeah, no kidding. We should all breathe a sigh of relief that bike races are still as cheap as they are. As endurance events go, bike races are just a fraction of what they could legitimately cost. Register for a regional triathlon and see what that sets you back (I think Pac. Crest is around $150 this year).

$30 this year as opposed to the 25.00 I used to pay at mtb and road events like 10 years ago - I say we're well behind the inflation curve. If after filling a gas tank at $4 per gallon to haul your $1,500+ bike to the race, you can't stomach a $5 hike on last year's entry fee, then keep your curmudgeon hide on the couch at home, we don't need your kind.

Here we go again....to much to race?

Why complain about something that you
can't control...Either go and enjoy the race or get a better job so we don't
have to listen to you guys complain about spending a few bucks to
race....
A few pitchers of Beer is 30.00 and people
don't complain about that and it's gone in no time....But a very organized
event that takes time and effort to put together with dozens of people trying to
make it possible for us to race and you guys complain, I don't get it....If you
have a comment please send it direct so everyone does not have to see the same
old thing as the last thread about PIR...

I agree!

In my opinion, driving to these events is WAY more expensive than the entry
fees. Jeez! Quit with the complaints!

The standard I.R.S. mileage rate for business 50.5 cents/ mile is based on
an annual study of the fixed and variable costs of operating an automobile.

I think if it wasn't so easy to race in Portland during the week, we would see a lot more guys wanting to race on the weekends. I don't think the cost is a big factor. If this was the only real fast race to ride in over the next few weeks more riders would be inclined to make the journey. It would be better if the spring race training series didn't started until June like in other parts of the state.

sorry if this came off as whining.

2008/5/2 :
It is the same as Kings Valley if you did not preregister.

Inflation occurs everywhere. Have you noticed what a 10 speed cogset costs versus a 9 speed? Prices keep going up, and expect the cost of races to go up as well. Also, in races that have a smaller exepcted number of participants, the fees need to be higher to break even.

Wow, didn't we just go through this?

Unless you are a pro, you are paying an entry fee for a sporting event
that you do as a hobby. No one is forcing you to race, and you should
treat it like paying for any other hobby. At least cycling keeps you
physically active, outside and with some healthy competition. If you
think it's a good deal, pay up & play. If you do not, stay home & ride
the beautiful roads of Oregon. If people think it's too expensive and
races don't get attendance, either they will drop their prices (if
they can & still make some amount of profit), or the races will dry up
as people can't/won't pay entry fees and organizers get tired of
losing money.
