cost of races

I am a first time promoter for the First Albany Criterium on May 25th. I would imagine that the costs of promoting a race depend upon the location and type of race. We are closing Downtown Albany on Sunday for free thanks to a very supportive city council. Out of pocket expenses so far include $235 to OBRA so far, $200 to Best Pots, and on race day some more money to OBRA for officials and mileage. I will also be purchasing Swag from Full Cycles Bike Shop (suggestions welcome, what prizes do you want). We also Are offering at least $800 in prizes (more if average field size greater than 20 riders). So that totals at least $1235 so far. Now if I were to charge minimum wage for the time we have put in on the race so far....... Promoting races on an amateur level will never allow anyone to quit their day job. The cost of racing in Oregon is generally more than fair given the effort it takes to make a race happen. Also, Candi, Kenji, the officials, and the rest of the O
BRA staff are amazingly helpful and patient, thanks.

friends,
at the risk of giving a data point, we've talked about how the PIR promoters are getting RICH RICH RICH, on us poor racing suckers (with $3000 wheels).

so what would it cost for a two person team to do a fun race through portland with less prizes and more mayhem?

how about $120 per team,

I am not saying the event won't be fun, but I paid 10% of that last night for PIR.

so I've got 9 more PIRs or that event for the same out of pocket cash.

oh, and for those who do bad math and think promoters are getting RICH RICH RICH, please put on a race series. I will come and race so you too can become RICH RICH RICH.
