Cirque du Cycling Criterium - June 14th

Come be part of a new event in Portland, Cirque du Cycling on North
Mississippi Ave. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks throughout the
event. The event couldn't happen without the support of great crew of
volunteers, and thanks in advance for your dedication and help!

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Cirque du Cycling, presented by Laughing Planet, is part circus, part bike
street race and a benefit for Self Enhancement, Inc.

The whole event kicks off at 4pm with a free three-mile family ride to
Peninsula Park. There is also a bike parade (5pm) (advance registration
required) featuring all sorts of wild sculptural bikes: tall bikes,
choppers, swing bikes and more.

There's live music all afternoon, plenty of entertainment to watch and an
evening criterium street race with a two-way racing right down the middle of
Mississippi Avenue.

VOLUNTEERS GET:
All volunteers get a free t-shirt, Mississippi Pizza, a drink and a
fun-filled day of bike activities.

VOLUNTEER JOBS:
Meet in front of the Laughing Planet Cafe (between Failing and Beech St on
Mississippi Ave.) at the designated time for your volunteer position.

COURSE MARSHALL
Job Description: See the racers up close and ensure the safety of the racers
and spectators on the course! Assist in course safe course crossings when no
racers are coming, give spectators and residents a heads up the racers are
coming, and keep people off the racecourse. This is a serious position that
requires a volunteer that is very comfortable communicating with the public,
is alert and can multitask.
Positions needed: Minimum 18, Maximum 25
Time: 6:00pm ­ 8:30pm, 2.5 hours. Must be able to commit to position and
location for the whole 2.5 hours. Bring water; wear comfortable shoes and
gloves if available. Volunteers should meet at Laughing Planet Café patio
area promptly at 6:00pm.


SET UP CREW
Job Description: See the event magically come to life! Help the organizers
set up barricades, cones, fencing, signage, and other variety of logistics.
Positions needed: Minimum 8, Maximum 15
Locations: Meet at start/finish area at Laughing Planet Café (between
Failing and Beech St on Mississippi Ave.) at 4:30pm. We will congregate
there and then disburse to set up on the course.
Time: 4:00pm ­ 6:30pm. Must be able to lift and carry large items up to
50lbs. Must be able to commit to position for at least 2 hours. Bring gloves
and sturdy shoes.


CLEAN UP CREW
Job Description: Be part of the clean up crew that helps make the event
disappear in the night like it never happened! Help the weary organizers
clean up from this great event by bringing in barricades, cones, and course
logistic equipment.
Positions needed: Minimum 12, Maximum 18
Locations: Meet at start/finish area at Laughing Planet Café (between
Failing and Beech St on Mississippi Ave.) as soon as race finishes at about
8:30pm. We will congregate there and then disburse to the course.
Time: 8:30pm ­ 11:00pm. Must be able to lift and carry large items up to
50lbs. Must be able to commit to position for at least 2 hours. Bring gloves
and sturdy shoes. If available, please bring headlamp (we will be cleaning
up at night).
