I was amazed yesterday at the firecracker. I have been racing mountain
bikes a pretty long time, I have done most of the classics, you
wouldn't think that after 25 years of mountain bike racing the best
was yet to come but that is what happened yesterday. It was the best
and most fun mountain bike race I have ever done. The climbs were hard
steep and mostly rideable. The descents fast, technical but mostly
safe. The course was almost all single track but with lots of places
to pass. I understand this was a new course. If you missed this race
and you call your self a mountain bike racer you made a big mistake.
This was the real thing from start to finish. It was the kind of race
where your place really didn't matter because it was all about the
course. Next year put this on your calender. The bonus was watching
all the dude on the big travel bikes getting so much air (this was not
part of the course or race). Big smiles lots of fun. Thanks to all of
those who made this possible.
