*The Course:*
Same as the last race of the Vanport Kermesse series January 08 (map coming
soon). Course conditions range from smooth pavement to rough chip seal,
pave and gravel. Mostly flat with one little popper. This is a true Kermesse
style event - short circuit (6K), tight turns and open flats, no dirt, no
barriers.
*Race Distances:*
Probably between 45 min and 1 hr.
*Measure of Difficulty:*
Though lacking barriers, run-ups or kooky six-packs of cross fame, this
style of racing makes up for it with lots of tempo changing tight spots,
tricky surface transitions and hole shot line seeking intensity. Even with
all that variety, the course has great rhythm and is a blast to race. Don't
miss it, it's great prep for cross.
*Equipment Recommendation:*
The January edition of the race witnessed all manner of bike configurations:
cross w/ knobbies, cross w/o knobbies, road w/ wimpy tires, road w/ bomber
tires. Of those, it seemed that road bikes w/ bomber tires (25c Specialized
Roubaix from River City Bikes) fared best. NOTE: curious omission - 29er.
hmmmm...?
