Elkhorn registation and notes...

Elkhorn Classic

2008-06-13

All,

We are pleased to announce that for the 7th annual riding of the Elkhorn Classic we have one of the most balanced entry signups between all the peletons and the sub-scoring being offered! Rather than one peleton really being oversized, it is a pleasure to see that overall every field is pretty even in numbers. That said, we are looking forward to an awesome weekend as once again riders from all over the Western US, Canada, Alaska, and beyond band together for some fun times.

A gentle reminder that registration is still open, but officially will close tonight. Once closed we will correct and modify the last minute changes (I know THAT's a surprise) that people have requested, then finalize the list and post it to the ELKHORN website along with the latest Race Bible. Note: The final & official race bible and payout schedule will be printed and included in your race packet, but the website is a prelim just ... for ... you.

Yes Virginia it did snow in LaGrande, as well as Union and Baker counties on Monday and Tuesday. Yes, the white powder was still there the other day. However, this weekend is already seeing sunny, bright weather that is now going to continue into next week and race weekend. The roads are clearing up as well. However, as all smart racers, pack a wide range of layers and smart clothes into your fanny packs and be prepared for anything and everything. Also please be careful commuting over the passes.

We have had several reports from riders who have been out on the course and reported on clear roads, and even with the weather, both clean and swept roads. A couple of pave' furniture has been identified and we will have that marked as well as try to have warning markers too.

As always, whether racing at Elkhorn or just racing, you are ambassadors of our sport and the image that the local communities and cycling communities see, so please act accordingly.

Finally, a note to say thank you to everyone who has stepped up and helped, volunteered, and offered their assistance for the traditional last minute unavoidable surprises that are part of bike racing. Thank you again.

Best wishes to all and thanks for racing!

Ernie.
