ideas for bike rental in France

If you don't have any luck off chat responses and assuming you don't speak French, search "location velo". Better yet, if you go to the French version of whatever search engine you choose (like yahoo.fr) you might get lucky. I never knew of any shops that rented racing-type bikes around Paris (used to live near by), only city cruisers. The Ventoux link might be one of a handful of such places in the entire country. If you see rentals for "VTT" (velo tout terrain), those are mountain bikes. I poked around a bit and easily found VTT rentals in Chamonix www.chamonix.net/francais/vtt/vtt.htm. Maybe they can help you find roadbikes if you contact them. Good luck with it.

Try http://www.larouteduventoux.com/
They are located at the foot of Mt. Ventoux but will deliver bikes to other
areas in France. They have a very good selection of high quality bikes.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] ideas for bike rental in France

hey,

I will be in France (Paris, Chamonix) for 2 weeks and I want to rent
a bike for training. Any ideas on the best way to rent something
decent to train with? I don't want to haul my bike over there, but
don't want to miss training for 2 weeks. I'm assuming I can just
find bike shops and rent but if any OBRA people know any tricks - or
even shops in Paris or Chamonix it would help.

Thanks!

It was not that easy for us when we went to France in 2004. England last
year had plenty to choose from, but Paris did not. I looked pretty deep
for bike options and found only causal tour the city rental places. I
finally found a place that claimed they had "road" and "touring" bikes
but I ended up with a late 80"s Wheeler with down tube shifting and a
42/23 ratio and my friend ended up with a hybrid step through bike. Our
pictures of l'Alpe d'Huez, Tourmalet, and Mont Ventoux are pretty sweet,
especially with my friend on his step through hybrid. Was not exactly
what we had pictured, but still got to ride up the epic cols, especially
on a 42/23!

I swore I would take my own bike if I did it again.
