The AVC starts today at 10 a.m. with continuing sessions tonight at 6
p.m. and through the weekend!

Elite men, women and masters racers from all over the nation are here
to compete at the Alpenrose Velodrome from now through Sunday. We
expect one of the largest racer turnouts in the last few years, so
let's show the riders that Portland can make a lot of noise! Bring
your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to this free event and
watch the some of best track racing in the United States.

Riders from Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, Canada will headline the
international contingent. Riders for the United States will be coming
from all over including Colorado, Indiana, Texas, Minnesota, Arizona,
Washington and elsewhere. The competition will be intense as riders
compete for nearly $13,000 in cash and prizes.

Saturday's entertainment will be provided by the Last Regiment of
Syncopated Drummers, a local drum core. Sunday's entertainment
between sessions will feature SambaSol, a local Latin dance troupe.
There will also be a kiddie kilo at the beginning of the Saturday and
Sunday afternoon sessions. Macaroni Grill will be providing food
Saturday and Sunday.

As a special treat for local racers, Lakeside Bicycles is sponsoring a
special Carl Leusenkamp Flying Lap Gift Certificate (value $200.00)
for the best flying lap by a local. Doesn't matter if it's a man or a
woman; whoever gets closest to the flying lap record for their
respective gender wins. The flying lap will be the final event held
during the Sunday afternoon session.
