I've got a great route figured out. Thank you for all the great replies.
If anyone's interested:

First, you'll need to get to Estacada. Next, follow Hwy 224 up the Clackamas
River to the Ripplebrook Ranger Station. There, you'll bear right on FS Rd
46 which will take you all the way to Detroit. This is a very scenic
ride with virtually no motorists beyond the Ranger Station.
