Tonight's Short Track # 5 - Some Updates

For those of you didn't receive the email I sent out earlier this morning, here are a few updates ahead of the 5th stage of the Clif Bar Portland Mountain Bike Short Track Series, tonight at PIR:

1) Results & Series Standings
The final results of last week's race and the current series standings have been posted on our web site (http://www.portlandracing.com/results.html). With another two races to go and the best 5 out of 6 races counting towards the final tally, a lot can still change (and we know it will). So keep on fighting for those points and don't forget Woody Allen... "Eighty percent of success is showing up."

2) Queen of the Night and other Weekly Prizes
Whitney Stenkamp has won our fourth Bike N Hike Queen of the Night trophy. Her name was drawn among our ever growing contingent of women racers and will walk away with a $75 gift certificate. And thanks to the generous support of our sponsors Ironclad and Clif Bar, we are throwing some extra goodies your way. Short track racers Steve Carwile and Einar Traa each win a pair of Ironclad Mach 5 Impact gloves, while racers Mike Rosenfeld and Sue Hanna win a cool Clif Bar race hat and a personal supply of Clif Bloks. Just drop by our registration desk tonight to pick up your prizes.

3) Tonight is Prime Time!
That's right, more prizes! Our friends Bill & Joshua at Cyclepath have passed us some sweet pint glasses and other goodies. So, to spice up tonight's races we are going to throw in a schwag prime - in each category - for the racer who comes through in the lead after the first lap. So no more holding back on that first lap! And if you don't count yourself among the fast and furious, there is still a chance to win your own fair share of booty. In each of tonight's four race heats, we'll give another two schwag primes to the guy AND girl, who is racing in the most "summer-casual non-racer" outfit. The judging will be done based on the race pictures posted on the Internets in the next days. (Oh boy, I have this feeling that we're getting ourselves into something...)

3) Race Plates
A friendly reminder - to new and old racers alike - to make sure that your race plate is mounted on your handlebars in a secure, visible, and readable way. That means 1) your plate is not wrinkled or folded (tip: attach the plate to a hard cardboard or plastic plate or get it laminated), 2) your plate is attached to your handlebars and cables with 3 twisty ties (so it can't flip over), and 3) your plate is NOT tucked behind any brake/shifter cables. It really makes a big difference for our lap counters and to get correct results figured out and posted in a timely fashion.

That's it. See you tonight at the races!

PS: We are still looking for a couple hands to help out tonight from 5 to 7pm with registration and lap counting. If you are available and interested in helping out (even for a single 30' shift), please send me an e-mail. Already a big thanks to the 40+ folks who have volunteered so far. This series wouldn't be possible without your help!
